PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for stabilizing an alkylene oxide polymer whereby the decrease in molecular weight of or the coloration of an alkylene oxide polymer is prevented in a long-time storage. SOLUTION: In this method for stabilizing an alkylene oxide polymer, an antioxidant is added to the polymer and then the polymer is stored in an atmosphere with an oxygen concentration≤50,000 ppm. Preferably, the number average molecular weight of the polymer is 10,000 or higher. Further preferably, the polymer is polyethylene oxide or an ethylene oxide/propylene oxide copolymer.
