PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inspect basic performance of a meter using a substance of which the theoretical moisture percentage is known, in a moisture meter of drying-by- heating type. SOLUTION: The substance of which the theoretical moisture percentage is known, such as sodium tartrate dihydrate, is mounted on a weighing dish 1a of a mass measuring part 1 as an inspecting sample, in the inspection for the basic performance of the moisture meter, and the inspecting sample is heated and dried actually by a heating means 3 to calculate the moisture percentage in a moisture percentage computing means 6. The moisture percentage calculated actually is compared with the theoretical moisture percentage of the inspecting sample stored in an inspecting sample theoretical moisture percentage storage means 8 by a comparison means 11, and the meter is calibrated to bring a displayed value of the moisture percentage into a value closely near to the theoretical moisture percentage, using a calibration means 9, when a difference therebetween in the comparison is a fixed value or more.
