PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner excellent in reliability which ensures the optimum air conditioning ability properly conformable to an air conditioning load having a large changing width, while solving a trouble in a compressor such as wear of sliding part, overheat of suction side, or reduction in coefficient of performance. SOLUTION: This air conditioner has a rotary master compressor 1 and a slave compressor 2 differed in capacity, and the operating number and operation frequencies Fa and Fb of the compressors 1 and 2 are controlled according to air conditioning load.
