PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the deterioration of a CCD color filter and a film caused by the light which is continuously emitted from a light source in a film scanner. SOLUTION: After a pre-scanning operation, if the subsequent main scanning operation is not performed even after a lapse of fixed time in a state where the light source is turned on, a shutter is closed without turning off the light source.
