PURPOSE: An overpressure safety apparatus for shutting off a passage of a portable gas range is provided to prevent explosion of a gas container by shutting off the gas flow passage with the overpressure safety apparatus and extinguishing fire in increasing internal pressure of the gas container from radiation heat, and to cut down cost with simple structure. CONSTITUTION: In mounting a gas container in an injection port(71) of a governor, a gas inlet groove(73b) is opened by an opening ring(75). Gas flows through the gas inlet groove to a horizontal hole(79), and moves to a decompression chamber(80) through a passage(79a). Ignition is performed by an igniter with moving decompressed gas to a burner. A shutoff ring(76) is contacted to a fitting protrusion(79c) of the horizontal hole by moving a valve member(74) back in increasing internal pressure of the gas container to 5-7 kg/cm2 or 4-6 kg/cm2 against resilience of a safety spring(78), and fire of the burner is extinguished by shutting off the passage. Return of the valve member is prevented by inserting a shutoff protrusion of a return restricting plate(60) to an insertion groove(74f). The return restricting plate is turned by turning a gas regulating knob, and the valve member is returned by displacing the shutoff protrusion from the insertion groove.
