PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical shaft type windmill capable of further effectively converting wind power into mechanical energy, and to prevent noise and breakage of the windmill caused by high-speed rotation of a rotor shaft, in a wind power generator using the vertical shaft type windmill. SOLUTION: This vertical shaft type windmill has the rotor shaft, and blades for imparting torque to the rotor shaft. Each blade has a cross-sectional shape formed into a dipper-like shape, and is so mounted to the rotor shaft as to direct the head part of the dipper-like shape in the rotation direction of the blade. This wind power generator has: the vertical shaft type windmill; a generator connected to the rotor shaft of the vertical shaft type windmill; a sensor; and a control part for controlling a magnetic field used as resisting force to the rotation of the rotor shaft based on information detected by the sensor.
