PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that it is troublesome to affix optics for use after independent manufacture since high-temperature machining is required although a polarizer where a columnar silver particle is dispersed into glass, and that where an island-like metal layer and a dielectric layer are alternately laminated and then drawn are known as the polarizer for taking out polarization in a specific direction. SOLUTION: A thin-film structure is a flat one where a flat metal formed on a transparent board having straight irregularity on the surface is present or the flat metal and a flat dielectric are in contact each other. The flat structure is perpendicular or inclined to the substrate surface. The thin-film structure has sufficient characteristics as a polarizer used for optical communication for a crystal projector, or the like. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
