PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for synthesizing a hydroquinone monoester compound industrially useful as a synthetic intermediate in a high yield under a mild reaction condition without using a base. SOLUTION: A compound represented by formula (I) (R<SP>1</SP>is an alkyl group, an aralkyl group, an aryl group, a heterocyclic group or an amino group; X is a halogen atom) is reacted with a compound represented by formula (II) (Y is a substituent group; (n) is an integer of 0-4) without using the base to obtain the hydroquinone monoester compound.
