PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an abnormality detection device and an abnormality detection method for a drain trap enabling the detection of an abnormality before the drain trap causes a complete failure and early correspondence to it by a simple device configuration. SOLUTION: This abnormality detection device for the drain trap is provided with a detection means 1 for detecting the presence or absence of drain liquid in a drain flow passage 4 of the drain trap D and a discrimination means 2 for computing liquid drain time and/or a time interval between drain liquids based on signals from the detection means 1 and discriminating that an abnormality occurs when the time interval exceeds a set scope.
