A cable driven window winder for a vehicle is fitted between front (2) and rear frames (4) and has moving grips (6, 8) to hold the window pane in the frames. The cable drive has a centrally mounted servo drive (16) with crossed cable feeds to pulley wheels (12, 14) on the moving grips. To ensure a rattle free operation, especially for frameless windows in open vehicles, a fixed front guide (18) holds the front edge of the window pane in all settings of the window. The fixed frame is provided with a cushion grip for the window pane.
