PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for controlling the travel of a coke oven transfer machine, of which installation work is easy, not requiring the installation of wireless guiding rails on the ground. SOLUTION: This device for controlling the travel of the coke oven transfer machine is equipped with a microwave distance meter 4 transmitting a microwave having a wave form of continuously changing frequency in a prescribed period through an antenna 2 for microwave transmission toward a reflection plate 10 and receiving the reflected microwave, calculating the distance to the reflection plate 10 based on the difference of the frequencies of the received microwave and transmitting microwave and transmitting it to a controlling device as a distance signal, and the controlling device converting the distance signal obtained from the microwave distance meter 4 to a present position, driving a driving electric motor 7 through a speed-controlling tool 9 based on the present position and an objective position set in advance, traveling the coke oven transfer machine 1 toward the objective position and stopping.
