PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module which is free of optical axis misalignment and has superior efficiency of coupling to an optical fiber and a manufacturing method for the optical module. SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the optical module includes: a stage of assembling a base substrate mounted with at least a semiconductor laser element, a thermo module which couples the exit light of the semiconductor laser element to the optical fiber directly or through an optical member and controls the temperature of the semiconductor laser element through the base substrate, and a package in which the base substrate, the optical member, and the thermo module are stored and fixed; and a soldering stage of soldering and joining a 1st joined surface between the base substrate and the front side of the thermo module or a 2nd joined surface between the back side of the thermo module and the bottom surface of the package.
