PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a particle detector capable of making a large number of samples flow in a flow passage at once, and allowing highly clean monitoring. SOLUTION: In this particle detector, a laser beam La is generated inside an optical resonator 1 comprising a solid laser 13 excited by a stimulating ray emitted from a stimulating light source 11, and a reflecting mirror 14, the laser beam La is emitted toward the flow passage 2 by the sample fluid to form a particle detecting area 8, and scattered light Ls, by the laser beam La, emitted from a particle passing through the particle detecting area 8 is received to detect the particle. In the particle detector, the laser beam La generated inside the optical resonator 1 is brought into a multi-transverse mode having a cross-sectional shape of which the vertical directional length and a horizontal direction length are different each other.
