PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic encoder magnetizing method and its magnetizing apparatus which enable acquisition of a magnetization intensity in the same extent as or not smaller than single magnetization, even when the magnetic members of a magnetic encoder are rare-earth magnets, and enable reduction of errors of a magnetization pitch to an extent similar to surface magnetization. SOLUTION: This magnetizing method magnetizes an unmagnetized magnetic encoder 60 comprised of an annular magnetic member or a composite member formed by fitting a magnetic member to an annular member circumferentially. First of all, a magnetizing yoke 9 is arranged, opposing one end of the magnetizing yoke 9 to the surface of the magnetic encoder 60, and the other end of the yoke 9 to the rear side of the magnetic encoder 60 interposing it in-between. In this state, the magnetic encoder 60 is set in a holding rotator 1 which has an angle detecting function. Rotating the magnetic encoder 60 in the circumferential direction, charge and discharge of capacitors 5c, 5e of magnetizing power sources to flow in the exciting coil 10 of the magnetizing yoke 9 from the capacitors 5c, 5e, are repeated. Consequently, the magnetic encoder 60 is magnetized into a large number of magnetic poles successively along its circumferential direction. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
