PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a latently crimpable polylactic acid conjugate fiber which has excellent crimpability and is suitable for woven or knitted fabrics having a swelling feeling while having biodegradability in soil and in the air. SOLUTION: This latently crimpable polylactic acid conjugate fiber is a conjugate fiber in which polylactic acid resins A and B having difference in molecular weight are arranged side by side, has≥40% crimp percent and≥50% modulus of elasticity after boiling water treatment. Preferably, the difference in number-average molecular weight between the polylactic acid resins A and B is 5,000-40,000.
