PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aluminum alloy having high strength, high abrasion resistance, and excellent toughness. SOLUTION: An Al-Mg alloy powder containing at least one member selected from Zr and Ti is obtained by a gas atomization method. To this powder 2-9 mass% (desirably 3-6 mass%) alumina with an average particle diameter of 1-10μm is added, and the resulting mixture is agitated to realize a state in which the alumina is uniformly dispersed on the surface of the aluminum alloy powder. The powder in this state is shaped by extrusion or forging at 573-723 K to form a solid material. It is also possible that the solid material is obtained by die casting. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
