MAGNESIUM COMPOUND, SOLID CATALYST COMPONENT FOR POLYMERIZING OLEFIN, CATALYST FOR POLYMERIZING OLEFIN AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING POLYOLEFIN

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a magnesium compound giving an olefin polymer having a narrow particle diameter distribution without deteriorating catalytic performances such as stereoregularity and polymerization activity, to obtain a solid catalyst component for polymerizing an olefin, to obtain a catalyst for polymerizing the olefin, and to provide a method for producing the polyolefin. SOLUTION: The magnesium compound is obtained by reacting metal magnesium having an oxidized coating film thickness of≤1μm with an alcohol and a halogen and/or a halogen-containing compound which contains the halogen atom in an amount of≥0.0001 gram atom per gram atom of the metal magnesium. The metal magnesium has preferably an average particle diameter of≤1 cm and is obtained by subjecting metal magnesium to a particle-forming process in an inert gas atmosphere. The solid catalyst component is obtained from the magnesium compound and a titanium compound. Furthermore, the catalyst for polymerizing the olefin is obtained from the solid catalyst component.
