PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitoring apparatus for monitoring a wide-area spatial distribution of a substance such as gas and temperature. SOLUTION: The wide-area distribution monitoring apparatus for substance, or temperature using infrared emission, comprises a path configuration optical system including a spectrophotometer 4, first reflecting means 6 and 10, and second reflecting means 8 and 12; an introducing optical system for introducing measured light from the spectrophotometer 4 to the path configuration optical system; a lattice point set means for setting a plurality of lattice points where a weighting distribution function is located; and a calculation means for calculating a substance concentration distribution based on measured spectral data and the weighting distribution function.
