PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain high speed, for example, in re-displaying picture data of previously displayed sea area. SOLUTION: In an electronic chart information display method, when display of a chart is requested, a display list 44 is generated through a CPU based on chart information 40 or on chart information 40 and chart control information 42 to be stored in a main memory, chart picture data 48 are generated and drawn in a picture memory based on the display list 44 stored in the main memory, and the chart picture data 48 drawn in the picture memory are outputted on a display 16. The generated display list 44 is recorded on a hard disk 28 as a display file 46, and the corresponding display file 46 is read out from the hard disk 28 when necessary and is stored in the main memory as the display list 44.
