PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device having a wide visual field angle characteristics and a wide temperature range of usage. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display device having a liquid crystal layer 7 between a pair of transparent substrates 1 and 2, wherein transparent electrodes 3 and 4 for applying voltage in normal directions of the transparent substrates 1 and 2 and obliquely deposited silicon oxide films 5 and 6 for changing the arrangement direction of liquid crystal molecules in a plane nearly parallel to the substrates when voltage is applied in the normal directions of the transparent substrates 1 and 2 are provided on the transparent substrates 1 and 2, respectively, the liquid crystal layer 7 is constituted of a liquid crystal material having positive dielectric anisotropy and≥10 pN and≤18 pN spreading elastic constant K11. Thereby, the liquid crystal display device wherein reduction of luminance due to the electrodes is prevented can be provided. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
