PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for manufacturing a optical fiber cable which can maintain optical transmission characteristics by preventing blocking with powder and uniformly applying the powder to coated optical fibers of a ribbon. SOLUTION: Before a plurality of coated optical fibers 44 of the ribbon are stacked in a groove 42 of a spacer 43 by an aggregating die 51, the surfaces of the coated optical fibers 44 of the ribbon are coated with the powder 53 in a powder coating box 55 of a powder coating apparatus 11. At this time, a solenoid valve 12 is provided to a pressure feed pipe 56 for supplying powder 53 to the powder coating box 55 and opened and closed in fixed cycles, so when the solenoid valve 12 is closed, the pressure in the pressure feed pipe 56 rises and then the solenoid valve 12 is opened to spout the powder 53 at a stroke. Consequently, the pressure for feeding the powder 53 is varied to prevent the pressure feed pipe 56 from being blocked with the powder 53. Consequently, the powder 53 can uniformly be applied to the coated optical fibers 44 of the ribbon and the optical transmission characteristics can be maintained. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
