PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal expansion valve with a manual expansion valve coping with emergency maintenance, capable of temporarily continuing cooling operation even when regulation of the thermal expansion valve is disabled, and of being replaced without cutting off or working upon a refrigerant pipe. SOLUTION: If it is determined that the regulation of the thermal expansion valve body 1 is disabled, by opening a manual regulating rod 11, a liquid refrigerant is decompressed at a needle valve 10 after passing through a liquid refrigerant bypass passage, flows into an evaporator from a gas tube connection port 6, and the operation can be restarted. The thermal expansion valve body 1 that can not be regulated can be easily replaced by removing bolts 4 without cutting off the refrigerant pipe connected with a liquid tube connection port 5 and the gas tube connection port 6.
