The method involves using a row of sensors distributed (5) over the width of the strip individually or in groups. The incident and opposing light sources have dark phases in which the other lights and the light and dark phases are coordinated with reading the row of sensors. The incident and transmitted lights are turned on alternately in a predefined time pattern.
