PURPOSE: A calculating method of oil temperature for an automatic transmission and a device thereof are provided to reduce manufacturing cost, and to prevent shift shock by stably detecting fluctuation of oil temperature stably according to map data without an oil temperature sensor. CONSTITUTION: A control unit counts time after stopping an engine by applying a trigger signal to a timer in detecting engine stop(S101). The control unit subtracts the value in multiplying the elapsed time of the timer by cooling rate of oil corresponding to time, atmospheric temperature and coolant temperature from oil temperature in fully warming up the engine according to the predetermined map data(S102). The calculated oil temperature is compared with the value in adding the atmospheric temperature to 5 deg.C(S103). The control unit decides the oil temperature of the transmission to be ambient temperature if the calculated oil temperature is below the value in adding the atmospheric temperature to 5 deg.C(S104).
