The disclosure of this Specification is the same as that of Specification 1,202,284 but the claims relate to a rotary actuator having a solenoid, an output shaft rotatably mounted axially within the winding, an armature mounted for movement relative to the winding in response to the magnetic field thereof, at least one anti-friction ball between the armature and an end of the shaft, a first ball race in one of the shafts and the armature, the first ball race confining the ball to a circular or substantially circular path centred on the rotational axis of the shaft and thereby orienting the ball during relative movement of the shaft and armature, a second ball race in the other of the shaft and the armature, the second ball race being substantially wider in cross-section than the corresponding cross-section of the ball to permit radial shifting of the ball from a normally inoperative position when actuated by the armature. |
