PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating method which can be applied in a closed environment and obtain a stable coating quantity. SOLUTION: With the use of a coating apparatus having an impression roll for pressing a base material, a cylindrical gravure plate cylinder for coating the base material with a coating solution, two doctor chambers which come into close contact with the curved surface of the plate cylinder and supply liquid in a liquid bank formed by an internal space to the plate cylinder, and a pump for supplying the liquid from a liquid storage tank into the doctor chambers; the coating solution supplied to the liquid bank of the doctor chamber on the upstream side in the rotational direction of the plate cylinder is charged into the cell of the plate cylinder. Immediately after the coating of the base material, a washing liquid supplied to the liquid bank of the doctor chamber on the downstream side in the rotational direction is charged into the cell immediately after the coating of the plate cylinder for washing.
