The mixer has a mixer trough with mixer shaft and mixer tools mounted on it. A reversing tool (20) has a mixer arm (42) with outer and inner mixer elements. When the radially outer mixer element (44) is displaced due to operational conditions, the distance between a stripper edge section (48a) of that element along an end face of the mixer trough and that end face, is increased, and the mixer element then supports itself on the radially inner mixer element (46). A double-shaft mixer has two mixer chambers, which merge into each other and have parallel mixer shafts.
