PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating device which ensures a stable coating process without generating defects such as the cut of a coating film due to entrained air, in applying a coating liquid to a strip-like material by rapidly running the material, and a coating method using the coating device. SOLUTION: The coating device comprises a primary side bar extending along the width direction of a conveyance face as a conveyance passage for a strip-like material, a secondary side bar positioned on the downstream side of the primary side bar, a primary side coating liquid supply flow passage for supplying the coating liquid to the upstream side of the primary side bar and a coating liquid reservoir part which is positioned between the primary side bar and the secondary side bar and reserves the coating liquid during applying the coating liquid.
