PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-size and inexpensive work transfer apparatus and a control method therefor which can reliably prevent interference of a mold with a feed bar 1 upon electric power failure. SOLUTION: In this work transfer apparatus for a pressing machine, a feed bar 1 is driven using servo motors 12C, 12L, 12F as a drive source to transfer a work to a plurality of working stations successively. Power failure backup devices 14C, 14L for supplying electric power upon electric power failure are provided only in the servo motors 12C, 12L for driving a clamp shaft and/or a lift shaft.
