PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gemstone sphere polishing method which polishes a gemstone into a desired contour at a high load, at a high speed, and with high accuracy, and prevents its sphere polishing tool from being bent at the time of polishing a minute gemstone. SOLUTION: According to the method, a convex sphere 2a of the sphere polishing tool 2 abuts on the peripheral portion of a concave sphere 1a of a workpiece 1 which has been polished into a concave spherical contour. Then, the workpiece 1 is loaded and rocked, and by rotating the sphere polishing tool 2, the concave sphere 1a and the convex sphere 2a are brought into sliding contact with each other via an abrasive 3.
