PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lightweight vacuum cleaner capable of securing sufficient suction force with both DC power and AC power. SOLUTION: The AC power from an external power source E through connecting terminals 22a, 22b is smoothed after phase control performed by an AC control circuit 23, and made equal to the value of the DC power from a battery 6. The suction force of a motor 5 can be made equal in the case of driving the motor 5 with the DC power from the battery 6 and in the case of driving the motor 5 with the AC power from the external power source, and the suction force by the motor 5 can be sufficiently secured with both the DC power and AC power. Since there is no need to provide the motor 5 with double coils, weight can be reduced, and a power factor in driving the motor 5 with the AC power from the external power source E can be improved.
