Method of manufacturing a micro-alloyed manganese austenitic steel comprises incorporation of titanium and e.g. niobium and vanadium in a low-molybdenum medium-carbon-and-manganese composition. An Independent claim is also included for the product of the process. The product has high abrasion resistance through precipitation hardening in the steel's refined grains also increasing toughness.
