1325041 Sterile cover for a blood bag tube UNION CARBIDE CORP 23 July 1970 [24 July 1969] 35811/70 Headings B8C and B8K [Also in Division A5] The inlet or outlet plastics tube 20 of a container (10, Fig. 1) for viable fluids e.g. blood is closed by a sheath 32 having at least one circumferential seal 38 and is opened by pulling end tabs 34, 36 so that most of the sheath is progressively inverted before removal from the tube. To ensure inversion, either additional transverse seals may be provided on one or both sides of the sheath or longitudinal seals (44, Fig. 6) may be provided on both sides of the sheath. The sheath may be formed from a folded strip, two superimposed strips (25, 27, Fig. 3) or a tube having permanent edge seals e.g. 28, 30 and loosely fitting around the tube or from an elastic or heat-shrinkable film having edge seals e.g. 28, 30 and tightly fitting around the tube. The seals may or may not display visible and/or tactile evidence of having been broken after peeling and may be formed by adhesives or heat-sealing. The end tabs may be sealed together at their extremities (Fig. 5). The sheath may be made of an ionic cross-linked ethylene monocarboxylic acid co-polymer as disclosed in U.S.Patent 3,264,272, L.O. polythene, vinyl and vinylidene chloride polymers and co-polymers, E.V.A. coated on polyethylene terephthalate or on vinyl, heatshrinkable films of polythene, polypropylene or vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer or elastic films of polyurethane, polybutadiene, polyisoprene, butadiene-styrene copolymers or ethylene-propylene copolymers. |
