PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To arrange the direction of a card shape medium to be mutually the same before inserting the medium to a printer. SOLUTION: A recording medium guide mechanism 33 is arranged on the front surface of a tray 32, and includes a first abutment member 150 to abut on the long side of the card shape medium Ka; and a second abutment member 152. When the card shape medium Ka is clamped by a clamp 48, and the long side 23b is abutted onto an abutment pin 150b or 152b, the medium is rotated and arranged so as to allow the long side 23b to be extended in the mobile directions of the tray 32 (A and B directions). Then the medium Ka is placed on the tray of the printer by the lowering operation of an elevating/lowering mechanism 50. Thus, the card shape medium Ka is normally placed on the tray by arrangement in a fixed direction, so that printing can be correctly performed on the upper surface of the medium Ka.
