<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a code read system which has a fixed-focus lens and can improve the read rate of, specially, a two-dimensional bar code, and a holding device and a reader used for the system. <P>SOLUTION: A robot hand part 1 is connected to an actuator 30 which is driven under the control of a computer 10 and can perform reciprocating operation vertically by a specified interval from a specified position and during this period, a microtube T gripped by grip rods 1a and 1b of the robot hand part 1 also vertically reciprocates.
