PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic head used for a magnetic recording/playback device wherein the number of magnetic heads installed in a rotary cylinder is reduced by reducing the number of magnetic heads necessary for one channel, mechanical stress applied to a traveling magnetic tape is reduced, and multichannel formation is achieved without increasing the diameter of the rotary cylinder. SOLUTION: The magnetic head 1 is used for the magnetic tape recording/ playback device of a helical scan system in which the magnetic head 1 for recording/playback information is arranged opposite to the peripheral surface of a rotary cylinder 3. In this case, an erasure gap EG, a recording gap RG, and a reproducing gap PG are formed in the order of coming into contact with a magnetic tape 2. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
