PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve productivity and product quality by equalizing the tension of individual magnetic tapes to a desired value in manufacture of the magnetic tapes. SOLUTION: While pulling out the rolled material 20 of a magnetic tape in the state of a wide belt wound like a roll from a feeding side and transporting it, the magnetic tape manufacturing apparatus allows a slitter 14 to cut the original member into a plurality of narrow magnetic tapes 26 and rolls them up onto a winding stem 17 on a rolling side through a magnetic tape transportation means 60. A plurality of roller members 22, 22, etc., internally equipped with eddy current type clutches 80 are mounted on one or more of the spindles 23 of the magnetic tape transportation means 60 to control the tension of the magnetic tapes in the middle of transportation by controlling the rotation of the spindles.
