PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To downsize a head unit, provide it with high environmental resistance, and to use a same type of amplifier unit for different types of detecting coils. SOLUTION: A preamplifier unit 2 is interposed between a head unit 1 holding the detecting coil and an amplifier unit 3 provided with a detector circuit, a processing circuit or the like. The preamplifier unit 2 is connected to the head unit 1 with a shield cable 5 having a fixed length, and is connected to the amplifier unit 3 with multicore cables 6a, 6b having connectors 7a, 7b. The preamplifier unit 2 is provided with an oscillating circuit and an EEPROM storing a correcting table for correcting the oscillating output of the oscillating circuit and a detected distance to have a proportionality relation.
