PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inner liner member excellent in light weight and gas permeability. SOLUTION: This rubber composition for the inner liner of a pneumatic tire is produced by blending 100 pts.wt. solid state rubber with 1-150 pt.wt. organically treated layer state clay mineral and further containing 1-50 pt.wt. liquid state rubber having an ammonium salt structure produced from a liquid state rubber containing maleic acid anhydride structure as a compatible agent for the solid state rubber and the layered clay mineral.
