PURPOSE: A method for forming spacers for a liquid crystal display device is provided to form spacers in desired areas by ink-jetting for reducing the waste of materials and form the spacers through five masking steps for simplifying the procedure in a short time. CONSTITUTION: A method for forming spacers for a liquid crystal display device includes the steps of forming a photoresist(PR) layer on the entire surface of a substrate(100) formed with a transparent metal layer(120), positioning a mask having transmission parts and shield parts on the PR layer, and radiating light on the mask to expose the PR layer. The shield parts correspond to pixel electrode forming parts(H) and the transmission parts correspond to the other areas. Among the pixel electrode forming parts, spacer forming parts(I) as a part of overlapping portions between gate and data lines(101,110) correspond to the transmission part. After the exposure and following developing, the PR layer is removed from the substrate and remains only to the pixel electrode forming parts. The spacer forming parts from which the PR layer is removed are filled with a spacer material(300) via nozzles(200) by ink-jetting. The metal layer exposed between the remaining PR layer(122') is etched, so that the metal layer remains below the PR layer and the spacers. |
