An intraluminal stent comprising an expandable, tubular support member with a longitudinal axis. A method of making such a intraluminal stent, whereby a stent being expandable from a first diameter to a second diameter is bound by helically winding a strip of expandable covering (e.g. pericardium or collagen threads) around the stent while in its first diameter so that the lateral edges of adjacent windings overlap.
