The facing panels (P1,P2) are retained by small plates (1) located in front of the zones where adjacent corners of four panels meet. Each plate comprises plate parts (1a,1c) which penetrate into the gaps (5) between the panels and is held by a peg (4) screwed into the wall (M). An adjustable length tube (2,3) serving as a stop determines the distance from the peg to the wall. An Independent claim is included for an application of the system.
