PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method for an optical device which is excellent in expediency and a technique for stable manufacturing a high performance optical device.

SOLUTION: After a single crystal film which constitutes a Faraday rotator 224b and is capable of exhibiting a substantially rectangular magnetic hysteresis is obtained, the single crystal film is magnetized while incorporated in an optical device such as an optical isolator 224. The need to discriminate between the front and back of the single crystal film is eliminated by performing the magnetizing process after the Faraday rotator 224b is incorporated in the optical device, and the characteristics of the optical device are improved.
