PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing an optical transmitter by which the optical transmitter having an excellent characteristic is stably manufactured with a high productivity. SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the optical transmitter includes a stretching process in which a preform is heated, melted and stretched, and is characterized in that Ep defined by the following equation is 0.25 or larger, Ep=1/2×(D<SB>1</SB>/L), where D<SB>1</SB>stands for the diameter of the preform at a position at which the stretching begins, and L stands for the distance of a position, measured from the above described position, at which the diameter of the preform becomes 1/2D<SB>1</SB>as a result of the stretching.
