PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cache control program having less overhead. SOLUTION: The cache control program realizes a MBC mechanism 42 of a file server 24, and controls a cache memory as a group of a plurality of extents. In a hierarchical structure in which an object is made of disc blocks of a disc device 35, and a file is made of objects, the MBC mechanism 42 generates a cache ID made of an object identifier which is in the same hierarchy level of the hierarchy level thereof, and makes a table for each hierarchy level which administers a cache header which keeps a relationship between the cache ID and a cache extent using a specific key for the cache ID. The MBC mechanism 42 then retrieves in the cache header table using the cache ID and the key of the object to be accessed corresponding to an access to the disc device 35. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
