PURPOSE: A method for improving brightness efficiency of a plasma display using a self erase discharge by an address assistant pulse is provided which applies a pulse to an address electrode while a sustain pulse is applied. CONSTITUTION: According to the driving method during a sustain period using a self erase discharge to improve brightness and brightness efficiency of an AC type plasma display panel having a number of pixels comprising discharge cells and a pair of sustain electrodes(X,Y) and an address electrode to control the discharge cells, a sustain voltage is applied to one electrode of the pair of sustain electrodes and a reference potential voltage is applied to another electrode and then a sustain discharge is generated. After the main sustain discharge is ended, an address pulse having a fixed width and a voltage level is applied to the address electrode at a point of time while the sustain voltage applied to the sustain electrode is maintained. |
