PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress troubles in a manufacturing process such as deformation of a group of electrodes which occurs when storing the group of electrodes in a battery jar and leakage of electrolyte which occurs when injecting it, in a control valve type lead acid battery formed by applying group pressure onto the group of electrodes. SOLUTION: In this control valve type lead acid battery wherein the group of electrodes formed by laminating positive electrodes and negative electrodes through separators are stored in the battery jar, a plurality of linear ribs 7 are provided almost side by side on the wall surfaces of the battery jar 1 which face end electrodes positioned at both ends of the group of the electrodes. When the total contact area where the linear rib 7 is in contact with the end electrode is represented by A and one side surface of the end electrode is represented by B, the battery is structured so that A/B becomes 0.08-0.35 and the width of the part in contact with the end electrode of the linear rib 7 becomes 2.0 mm or wider.
