Use of a composition comprising a seven carbon fatty acid compound for treatment of a fatty acid metabolic defect, preventing hypoglycaemia, used to fuel heart tissue, recuperation from cardiac or other high risk surgery, stimulating growth rate of a prematurely born infant and providing a source of rapid energy. The seven carbon fatty acid compound may be selected from 4- methylhexanoate, 4-methylhexenoate, 3-hydroxy-4- methylhexanoate, 5-methylhexanoate, 5-methylhexenoate and 3- hydroxy-5-methylhexanoate. |
