PURPOSE: Provided is a hyperglycemic and diabetic complication preventing composition which inhibits the activity of alpha-glucosidase to lower the high blood sugar, and the activity of aldose reductase to prevent the diabetic complication. CONSTITUTION: A hyperglycemic composition or a diabetic complication preventing composition comprises cuminaldehyde, or an extract of Cuminum cyminum. The extract of Cuminum cyminum is made with a solvent such as distilled water, alcohol or alcohol aqueous solution with carbon number of 1 to 5, and an organic solvent. The organic solvent is selected from hexane, ethyl acetate, or chloroform.
