<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline storage battery having excellent temperature characteristics at low temperatures by heightening the concentration of alkaline electrolyte injected into a battery without causing leakage even if a decompression processing device is not used. <P>SOLUTION: In this alkaline storage battery, a negative electrode contains a cadmium oxide as an active material, the cadmium oxide is hydrated to a cadmium hydroxide by alkaline electrolyte injected in an exterior can, and the concentration of the alkaline electrolyte gets higher than the concentration at the time when it is injected through this hydrating reaction. Once the alkali electrolyte is injected in a group of electrodes provided with such cadmium oxides as negative electrodes, the alkali electrolyte nicely infiltrates into the group of electrodes and is injected into the exterior can without overflowing from the exterior can.
